Oladele Ogunseitan, Ph.D., is a distinguished professor and University of California Presidential Chair at Irvine. He serves as Co-Director of the World Institute for Sustainable Development of Materials, and he directs the Center of Education for the University of California Global Health Institute. Ogunseitan earned his doctorate in microbiology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he discovered transducing bacteriophage in natural environments.

Subsequently, he earned a Master of Public Health degree at UC Berkeley, where he focused on environmental and international health. He was a Jefferson Science Fellow of the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine, and he received a meritorious honor award from the U.S. Department of State for exceptional teamwork and contributions to the successful achievement of U.S. goals at the third United Nations Environment Assembly. He is an elected fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and of Collegium Ramazzini.
